Re-do of a re-do of a re-do...

Some of you might remember the makeover of this

SWEET buffet...

 

When I removed a bad paint job,

I found a worse paint job...

pink top drawer, red door, blue door, green drawer, etc.

It was a disaster.

I removed the rippling veneer from off the top,

but painted over all the other imperfections in the veneer...

 

and ended up with this...

Better... right? :)

I finally got tired of all the veneer coming off the front

of the doors and drawers so we removed it.

Wow! What a treasure hiding underneath!

The most beautiful wood with worm holes everywhere!

 

 

It's amazing to me that back in the day they went to such great lengths

to cover imperfections that we sometimes go to great lengths to imitate.

(Ever taken a shot gun to a piece of furniture to create a "worm hole" effect?)

( I haven't either... but there are those who will remain nameless...:) :)

 

 

I didn't stain the fronts, I just used a dark wax.

 

 

Rusty knobs and cup pulls work perfectly on this piece

which still has the original beveled mirror and wooden castors.

 

 

 

This piece just keeps getting better and better with age!

Repurposed Stereo Console

What a fun makeover this was!

We started with an awesome non-functional mid-century modern stereo console....

Chase was happy to do most of the deconstruction of the stereo.

He was fascinated by this strange thing called a "record player..." :)

 

To make a long story short,

we gutted it, removed the speakers and backing, built a new top,

added awesome antique hinges, made a new back with reclaimed lumber planks,

painted, distressed a bit, waxed, buffed,

took it to the WildHare FleaMarket, sold it,

then remembered I had no "after" picture....:(

The new owner was kind enough to let me snap a photo later, thankfully.

So here it is...

New Look for a Farm House Hutch

I have no "Before" photo... :(

But, there are a few of you who might remember it.

I bought this from a gal at last fall's WildHare FleaMarket.

It had a dark stain, glass in the upper doors,

 and lined grooves in all the doors and drawers.

I was stumped for the longest time trying to figure out what to do about those grooves...

Wood filler? Build new ones? Leave them?

Until last week, when I was attempting to clean out the garage,

I had a thought... Just turn them around!

Brilliant! So I had to finish it!

 

 

 I painted some places sparingly in Provence, then all over with Pure White.

Finished with clear and dark wax and generously distressed for that

old farm house feel.

 

 I found some rusty knobs and pulls in my stash and they worked PERFECTLY!

 

Now I'm not sure what to do with it. I kinda love it.

I'm tempted to put it in my laundry room...

Buffet in Provence...

Whew!

Another WildHare FleaMarket is over and done.

It was SO fun!

Thank you to all who came and supported me and the other vendors!

 

One thing I did come home with... which I didn't go with,

is this awesome little buffet...

 

A custom order from a fun gal that bought some of my other pieces...

I've since fallen in love with it and wish it was mine. :)

Here is the finished product...

 

 

Painted in ASCP "Provence" and "Pure White" with clear and dark wax.

 

Our Easter tulips have about done had it... :)

 



 

I'm loving how it turned out, and hope that Renae is pleased as well.

The "Ed Harris Dresser"

Hey! I'm going to be a vendor at the WildHare FleaMarket!
Woo Hoo!! Mark your calendars!
March 22nd & 23rd!

 

This dresser is actually part of a set,

I have an absolutely gorgeous bed frame (w/ curved foot board and all!) that matches it.

The bed was in awesome condition, the dresser,... not so much.

 On to the reason I call it the "Ed Harris Dresser..."

 

 

During the "prep" phase I discovered some writing under the bottom drawer.

Apparently the dresser once belonged to 17 year old Ed Harris.

On November 25, 1937 (Thanksgiving Day)

He felt so inspired to tell a little about himself,

on the bottom drawer of his dresser, no less.

Or was it his dresser?

Perhaps he helped build it??

 



 

I just love it when I stumble across these little bits of history...

It's so endearing...

And I would love to find Mr. Harris...

(if he's still alive, he would be 92-93)

and let him know I have his dresser.

Hopefully he wouldn't be too disappointed to see what I've done to it. ;)

Faith and I finished her quilt today, so I just had to photograph it... a lot. :) Sorry.

Braving the Cold...for a Nine Drawer Dresser.

There's nothing quite like sanding a dresser in -10 degree weather...

I just couldn't wait to start this one!

Some pieces I will have sitting in my garage for months,

and others I have to start the very day I get them.

 

 

Luckily, the clean lines of this mid-century modern dresser made for quick work outside.
(BTW, I only sanded outside, the painting and waxing was done on my kitchen table...)

Donning all my winter apparel, I felt like I was getting ready to go skiing,

 and the sunshine made me pine for my ski bumming days at the Chateau Apres in Park City.

But alas, my outdoor recreation will be limited to "antique recreation".... for now.:)

 

So here is the big reveal....

 

I knew I wanted to stain the top, but it took me a while to decide on the color of paint.

I decided to use my unopened can of ASCP in "Old Ochre."

I LOVE this color. It's a perfect creamy off white. Gorgeous.

 

I decided to replace the original pulls with new cup pulls and knobs in oil-rubbed bronze.

I finished with clear wax and a slight distressing.
