Antique Recreation... Catalog Style!

My sister (who is well on her way to becoming a professional commercial photographer) came to town a few weeks ago with an assignment to take catalog style photographs of something of her choosing. So we headed over to the shop where I have my stash of furniture for sale, and she spent the morning creating these incredible photographs.

This is the final product that she turned in for her assignment... I'm biased, but I think it's gorgeous!

 

I wish she lived closer and could take all the pictures of my furniture for sale...

Grandpa Brough's Desk... Updated

My mom just recently gave me this desk that her father gave her... and now I'm giving it to my son, Chase. From what I understand, my grandpa Brough was quite the tinkerer... I think he and Chase would really hit it off. Chase is going to love having a place to store all his little tools and projects, and place to work on them too.
 This is what the desk used to look like... kind of. I had already started sanding the drawers when I thought to take a photo. It was very... orange. Which is fine, but not my style.

 

This is more my style...

 

 

 

 The bottom is painted in ASCP Graphite with a dark wax finish. The top was sanded down and finished with dark walnut and dark wax. The pulls were sprayed with oil-rubbed bronze, and I think the black on black effect is studly. :)

 

 

 

 

 

 

I'm liking it... a LOT. And I'm pleased to say, so is Chase. I'm hoping Grandpa would feel the same.

Classy and Fun!

I didn't plan on buying this dresser. I stumbled upon it quite by accident.

I found a gorgeous antique bedroom set that I wanted on Craigslist,

and when I went to see it, and began negotiating on the price, the woman said she would

throw this dresser in with the lot.

How could I pass that up?
I'm sorry to say I have no "before" photo, but here are a few of the finished product...

 

I stained the top and painted the rest in Country Grey by Annie Sloan.

Then finished with both clear and dark wax.

The pulls have a bit of a shimmer to them, and really add a touch of class.

This piece is now SOLD.

 

Imagine the Possibilities...

Wow! It's been a while since I've updated the blog... Not that I haven't been working on furniture, I have. I've been trying to clear out my garage and basement. I'm sure a garage sale will be held in the very near future. So many projects I'm just not getting to... I think hoarding all this furniture is making me fat. Ha ha! Seriously, does this hutch make my butt look big? Anyhow, here is the latest makeover...

 

This dresser was given to me by a friend, and honestly, I was tempted to sell it as it was. Someone put a lot of work into this finish, and I'm sure someone else would love it... but I couldn't let it leave my hands without  "Danielle-ifying" it just a bit. It wasn't my style, and I could just IMAGINE the possibilities... :) So here is the AFTER:

From the very start I thought it needed feet... and cup pulls... and Graphite paint...

I'm so pleased with the result! What do you think?

Yep, that's right. I'm moving a large amount of furniture and other uniquities into a beautiful timber frame building on highway 20, between Rigby and Rexburg. At Long Last...

This dresser has been sitting in my garage for over a year, ever so slowly,

transforming, metamorph-ing (not a word, I know) into this...

I left the original glass knobs on it, but I can't make up my mind about them...

 It's a philosophy I've been living by (without realizing it) ever since I started having kids. :)

I think this quote belongs on my laundry room wall...

And if my laundry room was big enough, I would put this table in it to fold laundry on...

because, surprisingly, I do enjoy folding laundry... just not socks. :)

Updated Hutch in Antibes Green

This hutch was in dire need of a makeover...

Although it was structurally sound, the back was cracked, and that bubbly plastic? Ew...

So first thing, I replace the plastic with double strength glass.

 

 

 It's not a big monster of a piece, so I thought I'd do something bold. Inspired by springtime, I chose Antibes Green by Annie Sloan.

 

 

We replaced the cracked backing with some reclaimed lumber...

 

Lined the drawer, and added cup pulls...

 

 

It's a sweet little number, isn't it?



 

 

It would look mighty fine filled with white ironstone, or tarnished silver,

or stacks of fabric for that matter... What would YOU put in it?

Oh yes, it's salvagable...

A big THANK YOU to my brother and sister in law for giving me a chance to salvage this dresser!

It was riddled with problems, but still had some sweet bones that I couldn't pass up.

Here is a photo during the process...

 

 

We replaced the top, rebuilt the top drawer, removed one drawer rung, and added shelves...

After some Annie Sloan paint and wax, this is what became of it...

 

 

 

Our outside kitty was so curious about this new cozy soft place to explore...

Isn't she pretty?

 



 

It's a pretty light weight dresser, and still has a few imperfections,

but it's as cute as can be, and very functional

Ha! Funny story, I just sold it back to my sister in law... ;)

Two-Toned Stained Dresser with Mirror/Chalkboard

Isn't this dresser just as cute as can be? It's feminine and masculine at the same time. I can just imagine it as a bathroom vanity... I turned the mirror around and painted the back of it with chalkboard paint. So versatile!

 

It's sitting on the original wooden castors.
